This particular grass grows along the Shinnecock coastline, however has been washed out in sections over the last few decades by storms. A portion of the project aims to replant and restore this grass, aiding in retaining sand along the beach as well as providing habitat for other marine life such as (but not limited to) ribbed muscles and fiddler crabs.

Some of the spartina alterniflora being grown in the intertidal zone of the project area.
